Professor McAuley is a Consultant and Professor in Intensive Care Medicine at the Regional Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Queen’s University in Belfast. He undertook his training in Belfast, Birmingham, London and San Francisco.
He is Programme Director for the NIHR Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) programme, and Co-Director of Research for the UK Intensive Care Society.
His research work in the areas of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), the pathophysiological role of OncostatinM and receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) in ARDS, has been awarded over £342M since 2003m
