Professor Brodie received his medical degree from Cornell University in New York, after which he completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He remained on faculty and is now a Professor of Medicine at Columbia.

Professor Brodie is a leader and innovator in the field of adult ECMO and runs one of the largest ECMO programs in the world.
